  • 1.  Exclude Excel files from File System Auto-Protect

    Hi

I am currently trying to solve a problem we have encountered with Excel 2007 running low on memory without actually running low. I can't find the solution so I am testing every possible solution and now it's SEP's turn :-)
I would like to exclude all Excel files from being scanned by SEP, is there an easy way to do this?

    /Lasse

In the SEP Manager Console you can create a centralized exception policy and in the client you can create a user-defined exception, at your convenience. You can exclude, entire folders, type of files, sigle files, etc...

    Hi Giuseppe

    Thanks for the reply.

I already had the idea that it was through the centralized exceptions, just needed to be sure.

All I need to do is create a Security Risk File and/or Folder in Exception Type and select Ignore in action, is this correct?

    Hi

Centralized Exception is the best way for excluding files and folders from scanning. U can also create a schedule Custom Scan.

Hi, I know it's taking up way too much memory or CPU time, but wouldn't excluding excel files make you prone to macro viruses.
Wouldn't tweaking the scan policies be better? Do you still have enough drive space for swap memory?

    Hi

I know that excluding Excel files from SEP will allow macro viruses to execute, I just need to figure out if it is actually SEP that's the reason for my low memory problems in Excel 2007.
It's not a problem with low memory, low disk space or high CPU activity. If I check when the problem occurs the computer is not even close to running out of memory or disk space and the CPU activity is low.

When the problem occurs it locks up Excel 2007 with a error message telling the system is low on resources. The icons in Excel are all working, when it happens, but a lot of the text is missing, it's actually possible to save and exit the open workbooks/sheets and afterwards I can just open Excel again. For some of our users it happens 1-2 times a week, others 5-7 times a day.

    @Lasse
Hi, I'm just curious if you already figured out what's slowing your system. Thanks.

    Hi Mon_raralio

It's not because our system is actually slowing down, it's just Excel 2007 that returns a low system resources message, everything else is working fine so I haven't come to a conclusion yet.
