  • 1.  Exporting Dictionary contents and Compliance rules

    Posted Feb 08, 2010 01:49 PM
    Hi there,

does anyone know of any tools that would allow us to export the content of some of our custom dictionaries (contains 600+ damins we montior) and or may be even a tool that will document the current setup of a Brightmail 8240 appliance?

I have searched and googled, but the only thing I came up with is almost the same question asked in this forum in 2007, but no response. Hoping I have better luck :)

    Thanks,
    Karl

    Hi Karl,

Are you running the latest version (8.0.3-11)?

You can export custom disctionaries using the "Export" button on the "Edit Dictionary" (custom) page (Compliance > Dictionaries > Edit Dictionary > Export) as shown in the screenshot below (taken from an appliance running version 8.0.3-11):

Please note that you can not export words from any Premium dictionary.

    Adnan

    Hi Adnan,

sadly no, we are just in the process of planning the migration from our current 7.6 to the lates 8.0.3-11, which is why I was hoping to be able to export all of the rules and custom dictionaries, and then re-import them into a completely rebuilt appliance.

We have been having issues with the databases corrupting almost on a weekly basis, so I was thinking of doing a clean install rather than an upgrade, to see if that solved some of our issues.

Good to know there is lots of added functionality in V 8

    Thanks,
    Karl

    Hi Karl,

I can understand your situation.  There may be a workaround that will allow you to export the custom dictionaries that you can later import back into version 8.0 or later, but since the workaround involves the use of support account, I can not post the details here.  I suggest opening up a case with support for assistance.

    Regards,

    Adnan

    Hi Karl,

Were you able to resolve the issue?

Did you find any of the responses useful?  If so, can you please close this thread by marking the response that was most useful as the Solution?

    Thanks
