eXpress Database move
This issue has been solved. See solution.
We currently have the eXpress SQL databases on tour individual DS servers. We wish to move the databases to dedicated SQL servers. Is there a way to point DS to the new location or is there some form of reinstall of DS required.
We're looking into the same
We're looking into the same thing.
I believe it's as simple as disconnecting the database, backing it up, restoring it to the new server, and then pointing to the new server. We've not done it yet, but that's the information I've received so far.
Hopefully someone with past experience can give exact steps of doing this.
Not positive...
I'm not positive, but I do believe you would have to re-install and point specifically to the new database location. I don't know that you can point the entire DS to a new database without re-installing.
You don't have to re-instal
You don't have to re-instal the DS. You need to stop the Altiris services on your DS and change the settings inside the ODBC connection under Control Panel -> Administrative Tools ->Data Sources (ODBC). Under the SYSTEM DSN tab, you'll find an entry called "Altiris eXpress Database". Hit Configure, and change the SQL server you're pointing to. At the end of the wizard, you can test the connection to make sure it's succesful. After that, you can turn the services back on and everything should be OK.
EDIT: This link https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=43725&p=1 makes mention of having to re-run DS install if something goes wrong. So you may end having to re-install, but it seems doubtful.
