    Hello,

I have a Seagate External Hard Drive that I keep all my backups on.  When I first got the external hard drive I went ahead and encrypted it's contents using PGP.   I recently received a new laptop and my PGP passphrase works great on my local C drive; unfortunately, I'm unable to access my external hard drive because it's not like the passphrase that I've always used to access it.  This probably wouldn't be a big deal but my external hard drive contains all of my backups, etc on it and I'm unable to access it's contents due to PGP not recognizing my password.  Is there way to resolve the access issue on the External hard drive without it affecting access to the local C drive?  Any help is greatly appreciated!   Thank you!

I'm wondering if your new laptop's encryption is just to a passphrase, with your backup external drive possibly being encrypted to your public key, with your not having imported the paired private key to your new laptop?

Hey there Tom, thanks for responding.  I believe you are right on target with that assumption.

With that being the case, you need to export the key from the prior laptop (making sure to make the selection to include the private key in the export), import the key to the new laptop, right click on the key in All Keys, select Properties, and set Trust to Implicit.

    Is this still a problem?
