    We have hundreds of HP 6440 and 6450 laptops that, when docked or undocked, will not let a user use an external keyboard or mouse until Guardian Edge has been logged into. Why is this? I have read articles that the older PS/2 equipment worked fine but the newer USB equipment has this issue. How do I let users access their external peripherals BEFORE logging into Guardian Edge?

    Thanks!

    We do not have a Guardian Edge forum, so I am going to move this thread over to our Encryption forum for you.

    HI Peter,

    what version of GE are you using?

    You may want to try using the latest 8.2. With this release we added quite a bit of new capabilites that allow for the externally attached devices (USB).

    I'm assuming you are also using the preboot.  Disabling attached devices is/can be part of the preboot for security reasons.

    Thanks

    Hi Thomas,

    As Tommy has stated this is likely fixed in the latest version, however to confirm if you carry out these steps and send to Symantec support they can advise:

    1. Get System information (Start-> Accessories -> System tools -> System Information or in command prompt type systeminfo);

    2. Send BIOS version;

    3. Send BIOS HD mode (AHCI/IRRT) and describe the devices that are affected at preboot (USB Keyboard and Mouse).

    They should clear it up pretty quickly with this information, and let us know how you get on with this.

    Cheers,
