In the DLP 14.5 Upgrade Guide there is a section starting on page 18 about enabling external storage for incident attachments.

My question is, if the current incidents are stored in the database, what happens when external storage is enabled?

Particularly do the database incidents remain or are they automatically copied to the external storage?

Incidents stay where they are once persisted. That is that if the incident is in the DB it will always be there; the same is also true for incidents on external storage. if the feature is disabled new incidents will stay in the database but old ones will remain outside and not be imported.
