F8 PXE Menu Issue

Created: 17 Jun 2013 • Updated: 17 Jun 2013 | 7 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello.

We are running DS/CMS 7.1 and are having some issues wih the F8 PXE Menu.

When a client boots at our main site (from our NS) they get the correct list of boot images at the F8 menu, however clients booting from our three remote offices via site servers do not recieve the same list of boot images.

We cleared down our list of boot images so that there are only two however they still dont show in the menu despite being recreated.
The images are in the SBS folder on the site servers and when recreated I can see Bootwiz running so the issue seems to be with the menu.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hello,

Try locating xxxx-images.sbs on the Site Server Deployment Share SBS folder.

Compare it with the one on the NS to see if they match.

Also check InitialPXEConfigPath.txt and the pxestartupinfo.log file

Best regards

Hi Indrek,

I have had a look at these files but am not really sure how to interpret, I have added the output below.

InitialPXEConfigPath.txt Is identical on all servers apart from the IP Address of the server.

pxestartupinfo.log from NS:

Hmm, this is new.

The logs show nicely that we requested for Image list and only received the two we where supposed to get.

Also SBS shows we loaded the two images into the memery of the services. When was the last time you restarted the netBoot services on the NS and on the Site Server?

If lately then I would open a Support case, it would get resolved much faster that way.

johnc365's picture

The NS was restarted yesterday and the Site server this morning.

Thanks for your time.

I can see this error when connecting to the site server using the RAAD, could this be related to the PXe issue?

Object TaskServerHandler is not installed: Invalid class string (-2147221005). This situation should be resolved once the agent rollout has been completed.

This error is on the Site Server agent logs?

This could indicate Task Server is broken, and TS is part of Deployment solution site server components requirements.

Also this error may be caused by any of the two task server services is in stop state.

I would check the agents logs and try to clean that first out.

Problem Solved - Dont I feel stupid.

I created a x86 boot image and it showed in the list as soon as bootwiz finished running. I have been testing using a VM on a desktop machine which was running in only x86 mode.

I didnt expect PXe to know the capabilities of the machine when displaying the menu. All my other preboot configurations were x64 only.
