  • 1.  Failed to boot to recovery partition

I have a problem getting scheduled backups to run on a machine.  Here are the specs:

    Ghost 8.3.0.1331
    Ghost server: Win XP SP3
Target machine: Windows 2000 Server (Standard)
User IDs are the same on both machines (administrative account names and passwords are identical)
These machines are in a workgroup environment

I can connect to the target machine via 'net use.'  I can even use a Ghost boot disk (with networking) and I can pull the image across the network that way...except it's no longer a schedule backup that way.  It's manual.  Here's how far I can get to:

    Update DOS system files.........Success
    Update DOS Network Drivers...........Success
    To Virtual Partition ........Failed

    Any ideas?  Thanks!

    Hi,

This seems to be network driver issue. Could you please tell me the hardware details? NFO file (run msinfo32.exe on command prompt) would be helpful to investigate the problem.

msinfo32.exe does not seem to exist on Windows 2000 Server, However, the ethernet card is an Intel 8255x-based card (E100B).  The Intel Pro 100 driver is supposed to work with this.  The Pro 100 driver is the driver I use with the Ghost network boot disk (the manual method--i.e., I have to walk to the server, stick the CD in the drive, reboot the machine to PC-DOS, and run Ghost from there--works flawlessly), and it is ALSO the driver I use for scheduled backups from the Ghost server (fails every time).

    Thanks!

When you run task from Console and it comes back with task failed, it will tell you precisely the driver that is missing. Get this driver IDs, go to manufacture website and download this driver. Then extract files, point Ghost boot wizard (Winpe editor) to this driver and import it to driver repository. Then add this driver to Winpe and once finished compiling this Winpe is ready to be booted.

Where?  The only thing in the task log is the error I mentioned before:  "Failed to reboot client to recovery partition."

Am I forever stuck having to use the Ghost boot CD? :-(

I'll note this again, in case it got lost in the translation:  I can do backups over the network MANUALLY using ONLY the Ghost Boot CD that I create with the Ghost Boot Wizard.  I can NOT do backups AUTOMATICALLY (scheduled) using the Ghost Console.  I can push the image over the network from the machine to be backed up.  I can NOT pull the image over the network from the Ghost server.

    Thanks!
