  • 1.  "Failed to connect to the server"

    I have recently installed Endpoint ver 11.  I am not an expert by no means when it comes to Server 2003. The
    Endpoint Management Console was working fine yesterday.  All 9 of the clients were listed, and everything was "green".

    Today, I tried to open the management console directly on the server.  I received this message:

    Failed to connect to the server.
    Make sure that the server is running and your session has not timed out.
    If you can reach the server but cannot log on, make sure that you provided the correct parameters.
    If you are experiencing network issues, contact your system administrator.

    Well, since I am the closest thing to the System Administrator, can someone give me some ideas why I'm getting this message when I am actually sitting at the server?  Nothing has changed from yesterday to today.

    I appreciate any help anyone can offer a newbie.....

    Hi,

    check the event id associated with the SEP service, i guess it could be mostly 4096, if you confirm, you may be inclined to serached to KB of symantec and start working on that. Also you can try reconfiguring the SEPm using the Management Server configuration wizard.

    Pete!

    Go to start->run-> type services.msc

    Check if the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Service has started. IF it has stopped, start it manually and confirm that it keeps started.

    You can also check the following documents:

    Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service stops with a Java -1 error in the event log

    "Java -1" error in event log and the error "Failed to connect to server" at login, with HTTP 401 in scm-server-0.log, HTTP 401 1 0 in IIS Logs
