Failed Differential Incremental Backup

This issue has been solved. See solution.
I have a daily differential Incremental backup that is going to disk. The backups failed due to insufficient disk space. I am assuming that unless the backup completes successfully the changed files are not marked as backed up and will simply be backed up when the next differential backup is run. Is this correct?
