Hi All,

We have configured SQL backups in our environment. We are facing an issue right now on 1 client. Backup of all databases is runnign fine except 1 database(model). Backup gets failed with below error:

Netbackup end:

10:38:47.668 [7572.4048] <4> Dbbackrec::CreateSQLcmdSyntax: INF - backup database "model" to VIRTUAL_DEVICE='VNBU0-7572-4048-1362479927' with  stats = 10, blocksize = 65536, maxtransfersize = 4194304, buffercount = 2

We are receiving same system error mentioned in the below technote:

Client OS is 2008 R2 and SQL version is also 2008 R2.

Exactly 5 minutes between these two entries:

10:38:47.809 [7572.4048] <2> logconnections: BPRD CONNECT FROM 10.194.187.97.59624 TO 10.194.124.31.1556 fd = 1184

10:43:47.876 [7572.4048] <16> CDBbackrec::InitDeviceSet_Part2(): ERR - Error in GetConfiguration: 0x80770003.

Please increase Client Read Timeout on media server to at least 900 (15 minutes).

Another possibility is hung dbbackex.exe processes as per this TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH189888, but it does not explain why only model database is failing. Can SQL dba use SQL backup to backup this database to disk?
Any hints/info in SQL Error log?

Hi Marianne,

I am really sorry for late reply.

Client time out in our environment is 3600 and this would not be an issue.

We have also checked and there is no hung dbbackup job.

Yes SQL team also takes backup of their databases on disk with 2 days of retention. Will it be the issue?

Also I am little bit confused in this scenario. Earlier we used to take full weekly and differential daily. Also SQL team take full backup daily and transaction logs every 4 hours from their end.

In the time of restore we were able to restore Full backup but unable to restore differential on it. Is their any issue to take backup of database from both end?

Abhinav:
SQL DBA must use only one solution for a Database backup (Native or NetBackup). When a DB backup is run the SQL marks a check point so the next backup will run from that point on. For example: A full backup using NBU ran on Sunday, Incremental on Monday as well as there was a SQL Native backup ran between NBU full and incremental. In this scenario the restore of full + incremental from NBU will fail (the full will be successful but incremental will) because there was a native backup between. If DBA restores that native backup and then tries to apply NBU incremental then it will work correctly.

Hi Dip,

Thanks for help.

Any luck for issue.

Abhinav,

Check the *.bch file used for backing up the database. You might need to re-create it (from client server SQL agent) and try the backup. That should resolve the issue. Let us know.

Best Regards,
Dan

Does the account you are using have sysadmin rights to all databases?

Have you set the NetBackup Lagacy Network Service to use the same account as you set the SQL login?

Odd if it is just one database that it happens to - but do agree with the others - is your SQL Admins run their own backups then you can only use Full backups via NetBackup and the time windows must not clash

Hope this helps

please create dbclient log directory if not created already and run backup. Paste log after the failure.

@Dip: I have created new .bch file but still no luck. Also I have checked dbclient logs and it was mentioned above.

10:38:47.668 [7572.4048] <4> Dbbackrec::CreateSQLcmdSyntax: INF - backup database "model" to VIRTUAL_DEVICE='VNBU0-7572-4048-1362479927' with stats = 10, blocksize = 65536, maxtransfersize = 4194304, buffercount = 2

@Mark: Yes account has sysadmin rights and all netbackup services run with the same account. Backup from database team end works fine but from our end it fails. Also checked the same our backup timings are not clashing.

Please copy dbclient log as well as SQL Error log to .txt files and post as File attachments.
