The fix was listed to download 11 RU5, which is what I ALREADY have, what can I do? I ran cleanwipe and removed all previous symantec folders, ran the tool to verify that SEP can be installed and it came back green, it install, but gives me that error when I am trying to get it to a managed group....

Check if this helps

Find the following line and delete SMC.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\SMC.exe

Also one or more dll's required for the Symantec Management Client service are not installed correctly. Copy the snmpapi.dll from a working system to C:\Windows\system32 folder and then run a repair on the Endpoint Protection installation to register the dll.

Thank you,
VinodhRaj K.

Tried, but still a "no go" NOW it is doing this...

SEP IS installed, but I can not get the service to start or get this to be a managed client...

Already did, to no avail

Think it is time to make the call to Symantec... This has been the worst install so far in 500 clients...

The SNAC service also sets itself to disabled

I have run Cleanwipe like at least 7 times on this unit and manually removed all Symantec installs and did all the reg tricks and .dll fixes, NOTHING works. Tried a manual install which took, but the networking is just non existent.

You could try running

You could try running cleanwipe once again. I've had to run it twice sometimes thrice and it worked after that.

I ran Cleanwipe 7 times

CW will not do the trick in this case.

I've had this happen before

I've had this happen before as well. Hitting cancel seemed to stop the SEP portion and allow cleanwipe to continue. it's like both attempt to run at the same time and they conflict with one another.

hi

it needs to when you have restriction to remove a software
disable symantec antivirus service.
open task manager
kill rtvscan.exe
kill smc.exe
go to services.msc
start symantec antivirus service.
does it start normal now?

Refeeq, I tried disabling ALL services...

...Then restarting and disabling everything which should also have killed rtvscan and I went and ripped smc.exe out of the registry as well, and still encounter the same results.

Uninstall SEP Client Delete

Uninstall SEP Client
Delete the Symantec Endpoint Protection Folder from C:\Program Files\Symantec\
Open downloaded SEP CD1 for RU5
Right Click setup.exe and select Run as - Administrator
Install Unmanaged/Managed client with required features
Restart the System on the Restart prompt
Try opening the SEP Client Interface. It should be resolved.

Prachand, I tried the Manual install

The same result even when I did it this way. It will install, but it will never even get to the point of the restart prompt. It is like it never wants to finish and it never wants to be removed, I am of the mind that there is something wrong with that image and not SEP itself.

Scanning in Safe mode is my next step...

The other information I did not think about, I will have to ask my remote admin to do the safe mode scan. I will be away next week. I am also of the mind that running Cleanwipe in SafeMode may be very helpful with this.
