Failing VM backups after upgrade to Backup Exec 2012
Created: 22 Jan 2013 | 5 comments
I recently upgraded one of my Backup Exec 2010 R3 backups to Backup Exec 2012 and now the job that backs up a few of my DR VM's has stopped working. I get the following error.
0xe0009541 - Could not connect to the vCenter server or ESX server. Please verify the credential supplied for login.
Backup 2012 is fully patched running on Windows Server 2003 R2. I know the system account is correct as it is the same account used on my other Backup Exec 2012 server that does not have a problem backing up VM's.

Seems to be a known issue:

If this response answers your concern, please mark it as a "solution"
Except I have Advanced Open File Option enabled.
Install HF http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH199866
I have to install that HF to be able to peform GRT restores from VM's.
I had the same issue as describbed here http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH199119, and I even had installed the hotfix that's mentioned there, but after installing HF199866 (It covers a lot of VM stuff) I was able to perform granular restores.
Regards,.
A second of your life, ruined for life.
I have that hotfix already installed. The application is fully patched. My issue isn't with restoring VM's but with backing them up.
Make sure that the BESA has the following permissions
What permissions are needed to properly use the Agent for VMware Virtual Infrastructure (AVVI) with Backup Exec 2010
Although this document is for BE 2010, the permission part is still valid for BE 2012.
