Created: 07 Apr 2014 | 2 comments

Having an issue w/ backup jobs timing out / failing.

Symantec Backup Exec 10d
Media Server v10.1 rev 5629
- has Backup exec installed
- OS = 2k3 for small biz, 5.2.3790 Service Pack 2
- OS = Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 Standard  x64, 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2

Backup Exec is backing up SERVER1 and SERVER2

Backup job is backing up:
- drives (C:, E:, etc)
- shadow copy components
- ms info store
- utility partition
- ms sql server (several "instances)

SERVER2 (chosen in "remote selections")
- drives (C:, D:, etc)
- ms sql (several instances)
- shadow copy components
- utility partition

Destination = a new, known-working NAS device added to the device pool

Job properties>
- use advanced open file option = yes
--- set to "microsoft vss service > automatic"
- advanced disk-based backup> uss offhost backup is NOT checked
--- also verified Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Veritas\Backup exec for windows\Backup Exec\Engine\Misc\Use Offhost Backup key value set to 0

- testrun was successful

- full backup on 4/4 timed out
Status = canceled, timed out
The job was canceled by user System

- incremental backup  failing>

Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe000fec2 - A failure occurred accessing the SnapShot handle.
Final error category: Resource Errors

Backup- \\SERVER1\V-79-57344-65218 - A failure occurred accessing the SnapShot handle.

Backup- SERVER2\MICROSOFT##SSEE V-79-57344-33938 -
An error occurred on a query to database SUSDB.

Backup- \\SERVER2\F: VOL2V-79-57344-65218 - A failure occurred accessing the SnapShot handle.

 - the "failed" incremental backup took about 90 min to "complete", and it did backup approx 80 GB of data.  However, these errors persist.

I can of course provide whatever additional information is needed.

Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you!

Backup Exec 10d does not support Win 2008 server. BE12 and above supports 2K8.

Remove Win2008 from the selection list and check if the backup succeeds for Server 1.
