Few questions about 12.1 RU2 MP1

Created: 19 Apr 2013 | 16 comments

Hi team,

Can you anyone tell what happen if we upgrade the server to 12.1 RU2 MP1 , and the client version will be 12.1 RU1 MP1.

Are there any impacts an above scenario? Like bandwidth issues while client downloading defs from SEPM server. Or any other issues.

We will upgrade the clients after server upgrade may be 1 or 2 months, in the mean time we need to test the clients with new version before go to production systems.

No issues. SEPM will handle those clinets if they are in any previous versions.

Infact. during upgrade. You will first upgrade your SEPM. Monitor for few weeks.

Then upgrade few clients. Monitor , Then upgrade the rest.

It should remain the same as previous upgrade to 12.1. Do you have any GUPs for content?

Make sure to test a few clients after upgrading to latest version. I've noticed the firewall is causing some slowness. I've have a case open.

Thanks Rafeeq

We don't have  any GUP's , we have clients in remote locations,

Brian81,

Is slowness causing by 12.1 RU2 MP1 version ?

The problem started when clients were upgraded to 12.1 RU2 MP1. If the firewall is disabled then the issue is resolved.

Hi Brian81,

Currently Firewall policy is not enabled in my SEPM server.

Is the firewall component installed?

I've found that if the policy is withdrawn, the issue still exists.

The firewall either needs to be disabled or the component not even installed for this issue to not take place.

Simply withdrawing the policy does not solve it.

if you dont have F/w then no issues.F/w is the one which used to cause some issues if no proper exceptions or rules made for specific application / servers.Always test the upgrade on few machines. then plan for the larger upgrade.

Hello,

Are there any impacts an above scenario? Like bandwidth issues while client downloading defs from SEPM server. Or any other issues.

No impacts are seen during upgrades. From what version are you planning the migration?

It is important to understand that SEP 12.1 RU2 MP1 is a maintainance patch and could be applied only over SEP 12.1 RU2.

I hope you are planning the migration from SEP 12.1 RU2 as migration path is as below:

Older version than SEP 12.1 RU2 >> SEP 12.1 RU2 >> SEP 12.1 RU2 MP1

Check this Article:

Upgrading or migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2100 (RU2 MP1)

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH204449

It states:

"Migration paths

Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2100.2093 (RU2 MP1) can migrate seamlessly over the following:

Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2015.2015 (RU2)"

Secondly, check this Article:

Hope that helps!!

Hello,

Your plan looks great.

Since you are planning to upgrade or migrate to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2, please take a look at the latest how-to article created by our very own SEP content council team.

Best practices for upgrading to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2

Upgrading or migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2100 (RU2 MP1)

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH204449

However, I was just wondering incase you are migrating the clients after 1 or 2 months, why not wait till SEP 12.1 RU3 gets released as it would be near the same time around.

Hope that helps!!

As you mention above, only  can we upgrade clients from 12.1 RU1 MP1 to 12.1 RU3?

Or even servers also Upgrade from 12.1 RU1 MP1 to 12.1 RU3 ?

Since it is a Release Update (RU), you will likely be able to update to it from any previous version of SEP.

Hello,

SEP 12.1 RU3 is not released yet.

However, as it is a Release Update (RU), practically it should allow you to update directly from 12.1 RU1 MP1.

Hope that helps!!
