This issue has been solved. See solution.

I am running Vshpere 4.0 and Backup Exec 2010.  I do not have a fiber attached tape drive.  I do have my backup server attached the SAN.  As of now I can back my VM's up over the ethernet which is obvioulsy taking a long time.  What do I need to do to be able to back up the Vmware Servers on the SAN to a LUN that I have presented to the backup server.

Thanks

You can connect your Vsphere

You can connect your Vsphere server attached to SAN, and BE server also attached to SAN. In the backup method, specify SAN as the transport mode. This would help you transfer the data over fiber and not network.

Please mark it a solution, if this is useful.
Thanks

 I think like BE12.5, You

 I think like BE12.5,

You want to turn off the disk automount first in DISKPART.
Then make the LUN holding VMFS zoned for both the ESX host, and the BE server.

Then do the backup again, making sure to select SAN as your preferred method of backup.

There is an online portal, save yourself the long hold times. Create ticket online, then call in with ticket # in hand :-) http://mysupport.symantec.com "We backup data to restore, we don't backup data just to back it up."
