This issue has been solved. See solution.
I have a customer who I installed EV on. The EV server 8.0 is win 2008 and the file server being archived is win 2008. The place holders all restore fine however when you view them from either windows 7 or windows server 2008 they appear as an icon with a X as appossed to when you view them on xp or 2003 they appear as a short cut place holder as per normal. Does anyone know the solution to this?
Thanks
Aaron

Yes. This is absolutely normal as this is the icon for the offline files of Windows 7 and Windowsx 2008. If you need to change the icons, you have to call Symantec Professional Services. What you see on xp or 2003 servers is also the icon for the offline files and not an EV icon like it does for Exchange archiving.
It's described in this technote (which sends you to the real information on Microsoft's web site) : http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/300992.htm
Many Thanks,

PS I hope that the post proves helpful.
Just to be clear here, the icon is displayed by the operating system. It is not something that Symantec controls. We set the Offline 'O' attribute, Windows sees that and changes the icon accordingly. MS went from the clock symbol in XP to the cross in Vista and Windows 7. Symantec cannot change this icon.
