File server restore problems

Hello,

We are having trouble restoring a file server from Backup. The backup is Backup Exec 10d. The Archive Point is the Home folder where User's home folders are. The server is running Windows 2003 NAS version. We are using EV 2007 SP1.

We can restore any data to the file server execept this folder tree. We get event ID 26 and 50, 'Write Delay Failed' some data lost errors, then the server eventually freezes or crashes. I've tried the restore with the placeholder service (all 3 EV services) off and it didn't fix the problem.

I do have a ticket for Backup Exec and EV so far on this issue, however, the BE ticket has been "suspended" as they beleive it is an environmental issue. I'm on hold for the EV ticket now.

The server is a Dell NAS 770n and all diags come up clear. We rebuilt the external array storing the data and that did not help.

Any advice welcome at this point!

Thanks,

  -Rob

The solution was to uninstall the FSA Agent from the file server. Apparently even with the FSA services stopped, the EVFilter.sys driver is still in use, and was causing problems with the restore. Uninstalling the FSA Agent removes the services and this driver.

After removing the agent the restore completed without issue, no more "Delayed Write Failed", or Event ID 26 or Event ID 50 errors. The server did not freeze or reboot.

If you are having this problem I suggest contacting Symantec support. From what I was told, they had similar issues with earlier versions and created patches, but there is no patch for EV 2007 yet.
