FileConnect: trouble downloading files from updated site

Created: 14 May 2013 • Updated: 30 May 2013 | 4 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

It's been a couple of months since I've logged into the Symantec FileConnect site to download files and have noticed the site has been changed.

Due to my work site's security settings in IE 8, I am unable to download from the site because it forces me to use a Download Manager.

I get an error that states "Failure to run an Add-In".

I think it's some kind of ActiveX content and we are blocked.

My security folks has attempted various settings but are still unable to fix the problem.

The old site had an option to use "HTTP Download" which was the only way I could download the files because the Download Manager on that site resulted in the same error.

Is there a way to use "HTTP Download" on the new site, or can you explain what conditions and settings are necessary in IE 8 to get this to work.

So far, I'm dead in the water in getting these files.

You would think as security minded as Symantec is, they would have taken in account customer work sites with a strict security posture would encounter problems like this.

Thanks,

YES.  I totally agree.  I think this change went in a couple weeks ago, and is definitely a step back.  "Normal" HTTP download was just fine.

Hello,

Symantec Fileconnect has now been replaced with Symantec Flexnet Operations.

Once you login with the Serial number and to download, you would have to install the Java Applet for Download Manager.

The Download Manager, would assist you when downloading single OR multiple files at the same time, this method allows you to select as many files as you wish, begin the download, and go on to other areas of business. The process requires that a Java Applet be installed on your machine that manages the download process, so that when one file completes it's download, the next in the queue is initiated. It also allows for the use of the "Resume Downloads" feature on the web site. We recommend the use of the Latest version Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version as there may be a bug, documented on the Sun site, between Verisign certificates and certain other versions of the JRE. This bug will still allow the download, but a warning will appear stating that it is not a trusted source.

Secondly, for using the HTTPS feature, you can click on the "Expand All" link to provide you with the HTTPS feature.

Hope that helps!!

Thank you Mithun, it works.

Was that always there, or just implemented?

Mark this as resolved.
