  • 1.  Filter as a target ?

    Posted Dec 11, 2012 08:57 AM

I've created a couple of filters using the query builder, but when i try to assign a task to them I cannot find them as a target ?

Why do they not show up in the list ?

Tasks and Policies support slightly different ways of application.

    Tasks:

"Quick Run": Individual Computers (with Task Agent AFAIK)

"New Schedule" > "Quick Add": Individual Computers (with Task Agent AFAIK)

"New Schedule" > "Add" > "Computers or Devices": Individual Computers (with Task Agent AFAIK)

"New Schedule" > "Add" > "Target": Conventional Target

    Policies:

"Apply to" > "Quick Apply": Group, Filter or saved Target

"Apply to" > Computers: Conventional Target

So to apply a Task to a Filter you need to select "New Schedule" > "Add" > "Target" and add your Filter to the Target. For a Policy you could just "Apply to" > "Quick Apply" directly to your Filter, the console then creates a Target containing that Filter for you.

So you can't apply a Task directly to a Filter and you can't apply a Policy directly to a Computer.

A bit more consistency would be better.

    Thanks Andy

That was wrecking my head and you've resolved it smiley

I agree with you a bit more consistency!!!

Seems strange that after creating a filter you can only apply it with a policy least that's what I have

still doesn't show when i select "New schedule" > "Add" > "Target"

Odd, it should. Are you sure you've remembered the name correctly and have put enough characters in so that it shows in the list?

yes i copied the filter name and pasted it in and still soesn't show as a filter under tasks??

I can see it when i use a policy and have applied the task that way for now although after checking a couple of clients it should be applied to it's not showing ? I'm going to give it a bit of time and see if the clients pick it up.

not sure though why it's not showing up under tasks. I'll need tocheck the logs i guess.

Filters and organisational groups dont show up when you apply it to a task. This is what you can do:

    1. Apply the filter to a policy.

    2. Then edit the target in the policy itself and save it as a named target in the window that opens up.

This way the filter will be saved as a target as well and will be available to you when you try to use it through the "Add Schedule" thing in a task.
