  • 1.  Filters - membership disappears

    Posted Sep 10, 2012 01:43 AM

Hi we have found an issue with filters loosing their memebership. This happens after one of our staff edits a filter and either forgets to save within a certain period of time or goes into edit mode and never saves.

We have hundreds of filters set up for deploying applications and rely on them being accurate for future reimaging, licence updates etc.

We aware this is a training issue and but is there any way of preventing this from happening in the first place and loosing a filters membership.

    Thanks,

    Catherine

We're having the exact same issue.  One of our desktop guys just recently pointed this out to me, and we've lost a lot of resources in our static filters for this reason.  We have quite a few people adding computers to those filters, so mistakes will happen.

I've never opened a case for this, but it sounds like it would be fairly easy to reproduce.

I have had a support call in with Symantec and this is their answer:

We have received a confirmation from our developers.
In this case there is a hard coded time out value of 20 minutes.
Once you edit a filter, all member computer information is moved to a memory-based cache.
This time out value is NOT for console but in fact for the memory-based cache and after 20 minutes it is cleared.

To avoid losing all members of a static filter, please advise your colleagues to save it as soon as possible.
