Final error: 0xe00084ec - A backup storage read/write error has occurred.

Created: 27 Feb 2014 | 5 comments

Completed status: Failed

Final error: 0xe00084ec - A backup storage read/write error has occurred.

If the storage is tape based, this is usually caused by dirty read/write heads in the tape drive.  Clean the tape drive, and then try the job again.  If the problem persists, try a different tape.  You may also need to check for problems with cables, termination, or other hardware issues.

If the storage is disk based, check that the storage subsystem is functioning properly.  Review any system logs or vendor specific logs associated with the storage to help determine the source of the problem.  You may also want to check any vendor specific documentation for troubleshooting recommendations.

Final error category: Backup Media Errors)

Check Windows Events for System Errors: Event ID's 5,7,9,11,15 errors point to hardware errors

Use tapeinst.exe to install the latest Symantec drivers for the tape drive

1) You can try cleaning the tape drive.  If the problem persists, then run the HP LT&T utility against the tape library/drive.  Make sure you select the write test and that you have stopped all the BE services beforehand.

2) You are on BE 2010. I would suggest that you upgrade to BE 2010 R3 which is the latest version. Your existing licence keys will work.  You can download BE 2010 R3 from either the fileconnect site or
After your upgrade, do not forget to run LiveUpdate a couple of time to update it to SP4 and the latest hotfixes.
After you have upgraded to R3 SP4, push out the remote agent again.
