Find Unmanaged computers option is getting incorrect report
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 4 comments
Hi,
I have upgraded my clients from Symantec Corp 10.x to SEP 11.0.5 but if I search for unmanaged clients from the SEP manager some of the upgraded clients show up as unmanaged clients running Symantec AntiVirus Corp Edition. What is it seeing on these clients that makes it think it is still running an old version. The clients all seem to be running fine.

Hi
It queries the registy of the remote computers to know what software is installed on it.
About the Find Unmanaged Computers function in Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

If this service is disabled, then the client always shows as "Unknown" and the Operating System Type (Description Field) is not populated
Here is what the diff between unmanaged and unknown computers
Unmanaged Computers
Lists the known computers in the network that do not have the Symantec Endpoint Protection client software installed
Unknown Computers
Lists the unknown computers in the network that do not have the Symantec Endpoint Protection client software installed. Unknown computers are the computers that respond to an ICMP ping
