Firefox crashes after upgrading to 3.
Hello
It is now the third time Firefox crashes after upgrading to 3.0.10
I am running the Firefox-HP Virtual Browser Edition as it is OEM installation on my HP computer.
After the original installation the browser is first updated to version 2.0.0.15
That works fine.
After that comes a suggestion to upgrade to version 3 for safety reason.
The first time I accepted updating to v3, I did not understand what was causing the crash.
The second time it became clear. It was the update that caused the crash.
Now I have been running version 2.0.0.15 for a long time.
As I continuously am getting reminders to update for safety reason, I finally accepted update yesterday, as I thougt that the update problem must have been fixed by now.
But that was not the case. Now I am stuck again.
I have noticed that in the control panel / Add & remove programs both the Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.15 and Mozilla Firefox 3.0.10 are installed.
Looking in the Windows Explorer, I find two firefox.exe.
One at:
C:\Program Files\Virtual Firefox\firefox.exe
A second one at:
C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Firefox - HP Virtual Browser Edition\fslrdr\1\[_B_]PROGRAMFILES[_E_]\Virtual Firefox\firefox.exe
(Double clicking the firefox.exe files makes no reaction.)
Please help me out. I prefer not to start all over again with installation from the system disk and importing bookmarks etc.
Regards TechMate
I haven't confirmed this, bet
I haven't confirmed this, bet there are bugs in one of the Firefox 3 updates and I can't remember the last update I had. It happened on me too - the crashing. The latest update I had was to 3.0.14 and haven't had any problems so far.
Hi TechMate. The second path
Hi TechMate. The second path you noted inside "fslrdr" has the virtual layer contents. The first path are the layer contents in an active state. They are the same files, but the ones that the OS sees as the application.
"PROGRAMFILES" inside --> [_B_]PROGRAMFILES[_E_] is a global variable for the location of your Program Files. In your case it's on C:\Program Files.
When you are doing the upgrade, making sure the installation path is pointing to the same path the layer was installed on. " C:\Program Files\Virtual Firefox", and that should work.
