  • 1.  Forcing Virus Definitions from the Server, via command line ?

    Posted Sep 14, 2009 11:45 AM
    Hello,

I want to automate and force once a day, from the server side, a virus update push to all clients. I don't want to leave the task only to the clients.
I have found that although clients are ok, seems that they don't ping the server ofthen enough so the database becomes outdated.

Is there a command line interface for these mundane tasks ?
    - virus defs updates
    - reporting "run  now"
    - others ?
    Thanks,
    -Alex

With SEP 11 you would be able to force clients to update (as long as they are online).  I do not think it is possible in 10.x to force clients to update without touching each client.

Pls tell us your product version.

I think in SEP 11 Client application will not listen on any port. Clients have to connect to the server to get the updates and polices.
But it SAV 10 When ever u issue any command it will send it to client at the same time.

yes rightly said by Srinivas H.P, SEP client is one who will communicate with SEPM based on heart beat.

SAV server can push the definition to SAV client immediately using the SSC console.

    Sorry, my bad.
I forgot to tell we are using SAV 10.1... no chance in the foreseeable future of upgrading... we are a large corporation and things go real slow, so we will be stuck for quite some time with 10.1

From the Symantec System Center console, I can open the  group under system hierarchy, then I can right click on each of the servers in there and select
All Tasks --> Symantec Antivirus --> Update Virus Definitions Now....

It works, but now I want to perform this autotically.

    Thanks for the answers.

In say this is how the changes occur and works.

A guide to the Grc.dat file in Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition version 10.x

its all in registry , you dont have a command line .

in CD1 you have tools folder, checked the configed.exe and the documents, check if that suits your needs.

Thank you all who answered. I appreciate.
Unfortunately, here is the dead blow: "its all in registry , you dont have a command line"

its the polling time before they could make changes in grc.dat
you can use doscan.exe , when you initiate a scan it will downlaod latest updates ( i think so)
but again after download of defs it will run  a scan..:)
