    Hello

We have several people now with the same issue who have Symantec Encryption Desktop. They have it integrated with Outlook to send & receive emails both encrypted and not encrypted.

What seems to have happened is that over the last few months the program, all by itself, has found peoples public key on the PGP servers all over the world so the program now send all emails to them encrypted and they do not want that also the receiving party is not be setup anymore for this so they cannot read the emails.

My question is how do I clean out found public keys from the program so it only sends encrypted emails to the email accounts which they have setup?

I hope that I have had it clear enough to understand.

Thank you for any assistance in this matter,

    Rick

There is an option called "Opportunistic Encryption", which will always check for a key and, if it finds one, will automatically encrypt all emails to that individual.

If the systems are standalone, without a Symantec Encryption Management Server, the setting can be found in the local client, following instructions here:
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH156843

Note the branding change (Symantec Encryption Desktop instead of PGP Dekstop) is not included in the article, but the procedure is the same.

In a managed environment, it would have to be hitting a rule in the Mail Policies, so that would be the place to start looking.

    Hi Mike

Thank you very much, the link provided worked like a champ. I guess I did not input a very good search parameter befoe posting this.

    To disable Opportunistic Encryption:
    1. Open PGP Desktop.
    2. Click the PGP Messaging Control box and then select your email account name.
    3. Under Security Policies, click the Edit Policies button.
    4. Remove the checkmark next to Opportunistic Encryption (default) and click Done
