This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi,

I'm having some problems trying to install the SEP client on a users laptop.  Installation of the package fails with the following error:

Freextracttor error: An error prevents this program from continuing. Access Denied

Logged in a an administrator with full rights to the machine - everything else working ok - I'm able to install a trial of Sophos or AVG antivirus without problems.

I've used procmon to monitor file/reg use during the install and have found the following:

Path: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\Symantec\Drivers\symndis.sys

Result: Access Denied

I guess this is the temp folder the package is extracting to but checking permissions on this folder everything seems fine.

Any ideas as to how to resolve this?

Thanks

Asim

Can you please chek if the

Can you please chek if the following registry key exists:

Search for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\ccSvcHst.exe\"Debugger" = "svchost.exe"

You need to delete this key and reboot the machine.

Also, plesae take a loot at the sep_inst.log and look for "return value 3". PLease post 8 lines before and after the occurence of this error in the logs.

sep_inst.log can be accessed by start->run->tyoe %temp% ->ok
