Fresh NS,. but keep HelpDesk DB

Does anyone know if there is a KB on starting fresh with a new NS DB but keeping the Incident DB with all the history in it. 

 

I understand that there may be some issues with Assets and Users in the Incident DB but wont they be over-written with the new info from new NS server?
