At preeboot the client uses SOAP over HTTP to communicate with the SEEM server and then passes the info through to the windows GINA.

what happens if the SEEM server is offline - will the user be unable to log in or does it cache the credntials somewhere in ROM?

I was hoping someone else

I was hoping someone else would reply for a change...!

I dont think it does use SOAP over HTTP at preboot, but rather uses cached/stored locally credentials. Once in windows it uses SOAP to do what it needs. This way it means it still works offline - try just disconnecting it from the network and rebooting. Else there would be no way of using the machines elsewhere, e.g. laptops.

Please don't forget to mark your thread solved with whatever answer helped you : )

Hey Dave, It doesn't use SOAP

Hey Dave,

It doesn't use SOAP over HTTP during the PBA. Whenever you register any of the domain users on the client machine, at the very same time, it actually stores the user name and password information locally under the Hidden Symantec volume files. During the PBA, it fetches the password information locally from the volume files and none of protocol (Like Kerberos or LDAP) comes into the picture to validate the credentials.

User can still gain access if the machine is not a part of the network. Hope that answers your question. Thanks

Regards
