Full scan before shutdown PC

Created: 14 Oct 2012 | 3 comments

Dear all,

We are still using SAV 10.0 and the PC are purchase 4-7 years ago.

In these 2-3 years, we found that during the PC start up, every user need wait for about 5-15 minutes to wait for the start up scan complete before they can do anything. At that time, the PC are very slow and open any application will only make the start up scan longer and the user need wait longer time!

During that period, the CPU loading and memory are not fully utilized. We suspect that is the harddisk I/O which is fully utilized by the SAV 10.0

We would like to see if the scan workload can be reduced such as:

- Can all PC automatically perform a full scan when the user shutdown the PC?

- Can the start up scan be tuned so that the scan time be shorten?

Best Regards,

Ivan

HI,

You are using sav 10.x you can upgrade to SEPM 12.1.

Scan for viruses regularly
Symantec recommends that you perform regularly scheduled virus scans on all computers in your network. This full scan should occur at a time that minimizes the performance impact on your users, such as overnight or during weekends. Note that any exclusions that you have configured for Auto-Protect should be included as part of the configuration for any scheduled scans.

Hi Ivan,

It's definitely time for an upgrade.

On July 4, 2012, SAV 10.x and SCS 3.x reached End of Support Life (EOSL).  This includes ALL maintenance packs and patches.

We recommend you upgrade to the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection, which as of today is version 12.1 RU1 MP1.

There is no cost to upgrade for customers with a current maintenance contract; However you may find that additional or updated hardware is required – see System requirements document.
