Full Scan stops without completing scan--please help!

I have never been able to run a full scan on my laptop (I've had it 1 year). A quick scan runs fine, but a full scan ALWAYS stops at some point (approx. 1/4 to 1/3 into the scan) and will not progress beyond that point. I have run it numerous times--even leaving it overnight--it doesn't ever finish. Can someone please advise a solution?; perhaps it is simply a matter of turning something on/off on my computer or software. My son detected a trojan virus and we need to get rid of it pronto. Thanks very much.

Do you connect this machine to any network or its a standalone machine ?

What version of sep is this ?on which OS ?

Go to add remove programs select sep click change select next repair and follow the wizard once complete reboot the machine and try full scan .

How long is the scan running for?  There is an option when you set up the scan to only let it run for X amount of hours.

If not that, are you getting some type of error when the scan has stopped? Or in the scan log does it tell you that it has been canceled or something else?

Which Symantec product are you using and which version?  If Symantec Endpoint Protection, which sub-products (Anti-Virus? Firewall?  etc.)  Is the laptop running managed or unmanaged?

Have you found anything in the Event Viewer?  (Application/System)?  As Ben asked, is there anything in the Scan Log?

You may want to run a chkdsk on your drive.  Are you sure that you are not scanning some of the Symantec files such as the quarantine?
