So anyone else think the Symantec Licensing Portal is useless?  We just renewed our AUP for our Altiris products and, once again, our licensing through the portal is incorrect.  Case and point, I registered our new licenses and when I try to combine them into one quantity the license portal doesn't show them anywhere.  I can combine old licenses with soon to expire AUP dates but not the new ones.  Fabulous.  So I went through our reseller and they get Symantec involved and after several emails they ask for licensing portal username so they can "check things out".  I get an email back with an attachment that says they fixed the problem and everything is OK now.  I check the attachment and it contains the combined licenses with the old AUP dates.  Not only that they somehow have given us a few hundred more licenses than what we actually own!  That was pretty good for a laugh.  But, seriously Symantec, for as much as you now charge to renew licenses this whole process and the licensing portal should be much easier to accomplish.  Never had this problem when it was just Altiris running the show.  Go figure.

You might try calling the licensing department at 1-800-721-393 for this issue.

I am going to move this thread over to the Altiris forum for better visibility.

    Well,

I can assure you that you are not alone!! I went through a process of ping pong email with more than one representative at Symantec regarding licensing in that past 8 months.

It began when we were told that we had 25000 nodes instead of 16095. When we contacted the support to fix that they told us that if there system was saying 25000 nodes it was because we had 25000 not 16095.

All that started, I guess, when they migrated licensing from Altiris to Symantec. I told regional representative that if we were blowing a migration that way here, the whole division (~550 persons) would get fired.

Anyway, even after that time, it is not completely fixed.

I bet you my pants and my underwear that we are not alone. I'm pretty sure that if we started a vote to know who had licensing problems with Altiris at Symantec in that last year, we would be surprised!

    Regards,

    RJ

in the case of people who are 'over licensed'. It was common in the past to provide extra licenses to companies who retired instead of deleted systems no longer in use. Some solutions, patch and software delivery as examples, held onto those licenses, which caused people to go over.

Our own Kyle S. posted a nice blog about navigating the confusions of the newer system. https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/prepare-yourself-symantec-licensing-portal

I was told a similar story about the migration from the Altiris portal to the Symantec one didn't go as smoothly as they had hoped but it would all be corrected in the coming months, etc, etc.  That was over a year ago and our reseller has pretty much resigned themselves to the fact that when we renew our AUP he's in for a long week trying to get it straight with Symantec.  Fact is, the loyal Altiris customers now face an annual hassle because Symantec is running the licensing portal and the migration of existing licenses from Altiris seemingly was botched.  And, sure, I could call a support number and try to explain all of this to a variety of support folks but my point is, I shouldn't have to when we're paying tens of thousands of dollars to renew licensing every year.  Better yet, let me explain to my CFO who signs the checks why we're paying tens of thousands every year for licensing that isn't correct.  I'm sure he'll be really eager to keep that streak going...
