Symantec Management Platform (Notification Server)

Hi Everyone,

We have a lot of drivers that need to run post installation as the manufacture does not allow direct inf installation.  The trouble is that NS doesn't include computer model as part of a basic inventory and so the filters for installation do not work until inventory runs.  Inventory only runs on a schedule and doesn't seem to be scheduleable as "run once immediatly".  

Running a hardware only inventory will populate vHWComputerSystem with model information. 

Running a software inventory will populate Inv_Manufacturer with model information.  

I've tried combing through the agent logs to find the command that the SMP agent runs to gather an inventory but have had no success.  Short of adding a bunch of custom scripts to the post config script to do this manually, I don't see how to make NS install drivers in a timely fashion.  I do not want to have imaging tasks per model but rather managed software delivery jobs using a model filter.

We do image in WinPE but do not use NS to do it.  DS 6.9 (GSS 3.0) is easier and quicker to manage imaging.  

I'll see if this populates before running inventory but I'm thinking a table starting with Inv_ is going to require some kinds of inventory to run and I'm not sure the inventory agent exists at all in NS's version of Windows PE.  

Well, I'll be.  This one seems to populate immediatly.  At least as soon as the inventory agent is installed.  We install this immediatly after NS by script rather than waiting for NS to push it hours after the main NS agent.  The end result is that we have instant model number from the INV_Agent_Plugin_Inventory table.

I´m not 100% sure but if your clients boot to winpe then they should populate the model in a Table called: Inv_Agent_Plugin_Inventory create a Filter for each model using the following Link: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/create-dynamic-filters-computers-model-and-brand

I think it's populated by the Deployment Plug-in. For future reference you can create a separate Inventory Policy with a schedule of Run Once 00:00, which will run immediately (as soon as the Inventory Agent is installed).
