Trying to create a boot cd after adding some drivers and after I press Finish to finally create the cd it starts updating and etc, but after I minimize RDP and come back the GBW is gone and I look in event viewer and find the below error message.

    GBW Event Viewer error message

Now, here is the screen shot of the drivers I added, because I was running into issues trying to restore a Optiplex 755 to Optiplex GX520. Some of the issues include D.A. eval and retarget not starting?? No activity on hard drive or Opticle drive OR D.A. completing with a Success, but the computer doesn't boot and only loops! Like it is missing Mass Storage Drivers?!?

**Update, trying to open GBW wizard and nothing - I get this DrWatson event**

GBW - DrWatson error - event viewer

**Also here is another error, in case it holds more needed info**

    GBW - 2nd Error

**Another update - I looked at services and Live Updated was set to Automatic, but it was not Started - so I started it and was able to at least start the GBW and get a screen print of the drivers I added, see below**

    Added drivers

So, anyone have any ideas? I really do nto want to have to re-install Ghost console again and loose my configs - even though I do nto have a lot of them, but I have little time to re-do them.

    MSXML6 Update

Here is screen shot of MSXML6 update (Above) and GSS 2.5 versions (below):

You can always safely backup and restore your Console settings - just search for "nigel bree" backup scripts under this forum.

Interesting why your GBW is crashing? Live update has no impact on GSS components and am not sure why GBW would not start but will start after you started LU? It makes no sense. I am guessing this is something else that is perhaps blocking devices - maybe some security or antivirus solution you have?

    Eugene,

We run McAfee 8.5i VirusScan and Anti-Spyware Enterprise I can check to see if there are any restictions - but I do not think I have it loaded on that server.

Also, after enabling LiveUpdate I did not have a chance to try and build new boot disk - will try today.

When running LiveUpdate it will come back and download the 2141? or something like that when I have already ran - manually - the 3 LiveUpdates.

To find out what the cause is and to come us with a fix we will need a memory image of the faulting process. Since the GBW component doesn't write one itself, you need install a tool like Userdump and get it to monitor the boot wizard executable for faults.

This will cause a memory image of the process at the time of failure to be written out; if you can get such a memory image we can load it into a debugger here and determine exactly where in the code the failure happens, and from that hopefully infer what the root cause that leads to the failure is.

If you can get such a dump, zip it up and get in touch with me at the e-mail address in my forum profile so I can either look into it myself or refer it onto the maintainer of the appropriate code. This applies to any tool in the GSS suite.

GBW build 2141 and above is capable of producing own dmp files. Look in the same folder where ghost is installed.

    Cheers.

I've sent a GBW dump file to Nigel to your gmail account. Also, I have two dump files created by UserDump they look pretty large - I will try and zip them up to and send them to you. Please let me know of any updates!

    Thanks

Just as an update, this appears to be a bug in the Ghost Boot Wizard code that prepares the ISO 9660 filesystem used for CD and DVD; it will occur when the option to include the DeployAnywhere driver library in the DVD or ISO image, and more than a certain number of files or directories are present in the driver library.

I have rewritten some of the affected code to not have this problem and a fix is presently in testing (and I have sent a copy to the original poster). Hopefully if it survives the exercises our QA staff put it through and resolves the problem, we should be able to release it as an optional patch shortly.
