General troubleshooting for virus definitions

Can somebody direct me to a document for general troubleshooting when a SEP client is not getting definition updates?  I've tried finding something as far as a general troubleshooting guide and am not having any luck.

My current situation is that multiple clients (12.1) are online and connected to the SEPM, but arent't getting the latest virus definitions.  They do have the lates IPS, Download Protection and SONAR definitions, but for whatever reason the virus definitions are not updated.  I've run the "Update Content" command on the clients from the SEPM and it says it completes, however the defiintions are still not updated.
