Getting clients to point to local SEP Server
Updated: 15 Oct 2010 | 4 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.
I have some clients using Live Television feeds of several computers. The administrator in the department has brought SEP licenses for desktop and installed it on all computers.
He wants us to manage the updates to these TV computers but ...No Autoupdates or Out of Date definition files reminders need to be implemented for the policies.
I can create policies to do that.
The question I have is, how can I get his computers to point to my server if he has already installed his SEP clients.
I can ask him to uninstall the current version of SEP and provide him with a client install for his machines so they point to the in-house SEP Management Server, but is there an easier way?
Thanks

The best option is to replace the sylink on them. Use sylink replacer for it

Thanks Prachand, I think I have done something similar before
Alternatively, I can copy and paste the sylink file it onto the new client or rather get the administrator to paste it on his computers. I am not a member of the Domain Administrators group nor a Local Administrator on those machines.
Will this have the same effect?
Thanks
You can copy and paste but thats a bit more work - the sylinkreplacer tool allows you to provide a list of computers that you want to replace the file on and it will do it for you. You (or whoever is running the file) will need local admin rights on the machines you wish to replace the file. This is needed to connect to the admin shares on the pc and stop and start services.
Thanks folks, that worked for
Thanks folks, that worked for me.
