    hi,
i have created various ghost images on the network.
There has been no issues with uploading them onto the network.
However when i try to re-image the pcs i am getting the the following message

"symantec ghost needs to open an image span.
Please insert the next disk and choose Ok.
or choose browse to locate the next image span."
Any ideas on how i can fix this issue?
    Liam

    Hi Liam,

does your images have multiple spans?
what happens if you try to browse the span and select it, does it work?
you also mentioned that you created various ghost images on the network.
was all images in the same directory?
if this is the case, you might want to check the name of the image file.
when ghost spans, it create a span file name by adding 001.ghs
so if you have a file name, which is same in first 5 digits, those images will have the same spans.
    e.g.
testmachine1 and testmachine2 will create same span name. which is testm001.ghs
so you might overided the existing span file when you create a new image.

can you double check that all the span files are ok?
    thanks.

    regards,
    James Lee

I was having the same problem, and after scratching my head for a while I realized that a colleague of mine had renamed the image file. Once I changed the name of the image file back to it's original name and ran the multi-cast it worked perfectly fine.

When I create spans I use the "-cns" switch so it's supposed to create filenames like:

    imagename.gho
    imagename.001
    imagename.002

This gives me more characters to work with to maintain unique filenames. But because of a bug it creates filenames like:

    imagename.gho
    imagename001.ghs
    imagename002.ghs

The problem with this is when you restore the spans are not named correctly. If you rename the spans to what they are supposed to be then it works. The Symantec folks were able to recreate this problem and are supposed to fix it at some point. At least I can get around it by renaming.

    Hi

I seem to be having similar issues .... creating images.  I have created numerous images with no issues, now all of a sudden my Ghost box will not allow a 7.5Gb image to be created ... always coming up with the Span Volume [1] Done (1658) error.  Thers is over 40Gb of space ... more than ample for the image size ... yet it keeps telling me there is no space ... do I want to compress and all the associated errors.

Thinking it was an issue with my Ghost box .... I built a new one....again it failed with the same errors ...on a totally un-connected Ghost box .... only thing the same is the Symantic Ghost Console Version: 11.5.0.2113 .... license key added....... would there be an issue with the license key expiring ... or is there something more sinister.

Any help with this would be much appreciated ....as I have a new image to make ready for developer laptops.

    Cheers

    Gordon
