    Hi,

I am running Symantec Data Loss Prevention 14.0. I have customer data in the file named Customer_Data1. It has three columns contaning First Name, Cerdit Card Type and Credit Card Number

When i try to create an Exact Data Profile, i get an error "The file has issues, it contains invalid characters in the first row."

I have attached both the Error Screenshot and the Excel file. Can anyone have a look and tell me why i am getting this error. Thanks.

Note: Customer_Data1 contains dummy entries. So no need to be alaramed. :)

    Try first_name, Credit_Card_Type & Credit_Card_Number

The spaces are probably generating this RSOD.

    hello,

You should use a csv file instead of and excel file to define your exact data and then be sure to define the correct field separator (As your content is quite simple you should not have any issue about encoding).

     Regards.

Hello Jawad , convert excel into CSV and use pipe (|) as separator it wont give you the error.

Thanks guys. Converting to CSV helps but i don't believe its practical approach. If we already have hundreds of excel file then its very painstaking to convert each and every one of them to CSV and then index.

Is Excel file not supported right out of the box for EDM? I am using Pipe (|) as separator so that should work for excel. Or is only CSV supported?

    Jawad,

Excel is not supported because it is not a 'clean' file format. If you opne an Excel sheet in notepad there are ton of header characters.

That is why in most applications the files need to be iported as a CSV file.. which is just plain text.

ONLY a CSV or txt file works, you can select the different separators.

    Good Luck
