  • 1.  Getting NS and Recovery Solution to work on dual homed server

    Posted May 06, 2009 01:20 PM

I need to back up two separate physical networks.
One has address range of 192.168.8.xx and the other is 147.185.10.xx

How would I configure NS  to communicate on both networks?

I have posted similar in the recovery solution forum to see if  I can create two RS clusters each with an address in the individual networks.

I have a dual homed solution running on my RS 5.7 server and have been dragging my feet
trying to figure out how to resolve this problem. Now I have to come up with a solution.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Are there separate DNS servers for each network as well?   If so, setting cnames on each side to resolve to the same server should help.  I think in IIS you can add additional interfaces and ports to the configuration; not sure how this would work though.  For RS...which "side" of the network would the RS cluster be sitting on?  You may be able to get away with the same thing, but you might have to use HTTP snapshot transfer methods.  Just a few ideas, hopefully they help.  I'm not much of a networking guru, aliases are about as deep as I get :)

The 192.168.8.xx network has no dns and is fixed address but only has one subnet.  The 147.185.10.xx does have dns and dhcp.  For RS I could put the cluster on either net.  I was trying to figure out if I could create a cluster on each network while still using the same serve.but  when I created the second cluster I didn't have any "server" to add to the cluster though.

     I'll investigate more,
