    Posted Sep 23, 2015 02:04 PM

    Hello all,

I have sucessfully backup a GPT UEFI (Windows 8.1 x64 and Windows 10 x64) to a .gho file. I am able to explore the .gho file with ghost explorer.

The issue now is when I am attempting to restore the .gho image back to the hard drive I get error MSG.

    Steps:

1-Start ghost64.exe via created boot disk USB via bootwiz.

2-Select Local --> Disk --> From Image. Browse to the saved location of the GPT UEFI .gho file.

3-Select the file and begnin the restore.

    4-Error MSG :

    ===========================================

    -Internal Error 36000                                                      -

-An Internal Inconsistency has been detected

-If this problem persists, contact Symantec Technical Support

    -At http://www.symantec.com/techsupp                                                                             -

    -                                                                                  -

    ==========================================

    However :

Keep in mind that I am able to back up and restore GPT UEFI (Windows 8.1 x64 and Windows 10 x64) using : Ghost64.exe -IR BUT I am unable to open the .gho image in ghost explorer.

    Sumary of issue:

1-Cloning a hard disk GPT UEFI (Windows 8.1 x64 and Windows 10 x64) to a .gho file with normal ghost64.exe no switch (-IR -ID) I am able to explore the .gho file but I am unable to restore the saved .gho back to the hard drive (error 36000 descrive above).

2-Cloning a hard disk GPT UEFI (Windows 8.1 x64 and Windows 10 x64) to a .gho file with ghost64.exe -IR swich I am able to save the .gho file and restore back the file to the hard disk but i am unable to explore the .gho file using ghost explorer.

It is critical in our environment that we are able to perform the following:

    A-Back up the hard disk.

B-Be able to explore the .gho file and extract files as needed.

C-Restore the image .gho of the hard disk created with ghost64.exe back to the hard disk.

Using the Ghost Solution Suite 3.0

    Using Ghost64.exe v12.0.0.8006

    Using Ghost Explorer v12.0.0.8006

I read about the Ghost Solution Suite HF1, download, applied it, and same issue.

Please any imput is much appreciated.

Hi there! I would advise recapturing the image with these command line switches:

    -NTEXACT -NTIL -NTIC

These are best practices for GPT machines. Applying HF2 may be worthwhile, as well, but shouldn't be necessary.

    Thanks for the repply Randall.

So do I use all these switches all at the same time simultaneosly or test one by one ?

Like so (all at the same time):

    Ghost64.exe -NTEXACT -NTIL -NTIC

    Or (Test one by one)

Ghost64.exe -NTEXACT (then test see if everything works)

Ghost64.exe -NTIL (then test see if everything works)

Ghost64.exe -NTIC (then test see if everything works)

I could do it the hardway and test one by one but I just tough I ask before that way I save some time.

    Thanks.

    All in the same operation:

    Ghost64.exe -NTEXACT -NTIL -NTIC

That is wahta we recommend as best practices for GPT machines.

I ran the command Ghost64.exe -NTEXACT -NTIL -NTIC and was able to do the back up to .gho image and was able to restore back to the hard disc.

The issue now is that ghost explorer is not able to see anyfiles and I am unable to extract any files. I have attached a picture.

    Please advise.

If you are not able to open the image in Ghost Explorer, I would presume the image in non-viable. None of the switches provided would make the image sector-based (like the -IR switch does), and should be openable and editable. Try again with only the -NTEXACT. Of the switches, that one is the workhorse.

    Anyone that can assist?

Is that machine running the latest firmware? Updating the BIOS might be helpful, if it isn't at the latest. Additionally, you may also want to get the latest driver for the storage controller and recreate the boot disk. Also, HF2 is available, which updates the Ghost executables to version 12.0.0.8010. If those things don't help, I would recommend calling in and opening a support case.

The computer is running latest BIOS firmware.

I will update to the HF2.

I will update controllers drivers for WinPE5.1 x64 in the bootwiz prior creating the bootable.iso.

    Will report results.

Ok, So i updated to HF2. Ghost64 shows now 12.0.0.8010.

    Updated drivers for PE5.1 Windows 8.1 x64

Recreated the file.iso via the bootwiz.

Executed command : Ghost64.exe -NTXACT and got an error MSG about te drive not mounted cleanly.

    I have attached the PIC.

    Please advise.

I have ran out of option here.

Could you please advise how do I go about open a support case?

    Thanks.

    You can call 1 (800) 342 0652 to open a case.

    Randall,

Is there such thing to boot a PE (created via bootwiz) in UEFI mode?

I know for sure the computer is set to boot in UEFI mode.

IS there a best practice to create a bootwiz for UEFI mode or just follow the regular bootwiz wizard?

    Thanks.

I was able to connect an external hard disk USB 3.0 then restore the .gho image.

Still having issue restoring the .gho image to the UEFI GPT internal hard disk.

    Ok,

So what is hapening the computer somehow is not booting the .efi within the .iso

I will do some testing and report back again.

Randall - has full UEFI support actually made it into the Ghost 3 binaries?  I thought this was something intended for HF3.

    EdT,

I was doing some research on the HF1 and says it has compatibility for UEFI 32 bit. The initial Ghost Solution Sute 3.0 Marketing banner posted on the Symantec web page says it supports UEFI but does not go into details.

The fact that I was able to restore the GPT UEFT .gho image to an external USB drive makes me wonder if the Ghost64.exe 12.0.0.8010 really supports UEFI x64.

I am clearly able to backup from the machine GPT UEFI, and able to explore the files with ghost explorer but not able to restore back the .gho file back to the drive.

I am still doing some diging around to see what happens. Will report later.

If you have time, try entering UEFI into the forum search engine and look at the more recent postings.

I was able to back up the solid state disk (Hard disk drive too), explore the .gho file with ghost explorer, and most important restore the .gho file back to the solid state drive. Everything in GPT UEFI mode.

This is the master command : Ghost64.exe -NTEXACT -NOTRIM

The -NOTRIM command is used when dealing with solid state.
