I have a few very basic questions as I am new to the Ghost Solution suite (and WinPE for that matter).  We currently only use Ghost on several machines and we create images by booting the machine via WinPE USB stick created with GSS 2.5.  We have a mix of Win 7 and Win 8.1.  I did go through the motions and create a boot disk using GSS 3.0 using the Win 8.1 Installation Kit.

1 - Is there any advantage to using the new boot USB for the win 8.1 laptops over using the one created in 2.5?  I am thinking that as far as Ghost is concerned, it does not care what is on the physical drive and either boot USB will yeild the same results.

2 - Even though I installed the 8.1 Install kit under the WinPE 5.1 32 bit config, it boots up as WinPE 4.0.  Don't know if this is just a bad splash screen or if I did something wrong when I created it.

Again, at this point we don't use Ghost over the network, just do standalone images.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

The version of WinPE used on boot media IS important for the simple reason that you will need to add VISTA 32 bit drivers for WinPE 2.x as supplied with GSS 2.51 and with the GSS 3.x product, the WinPE version uses the Win 8.1 kernel so you need Win 8.1 drivers. The latter are a lot easier to come by than Vista 32 bit drivers especially for new chipsets and new machines.  The Win 8.1 install kit offers WinPE 4 - you need the Win 10 install kit for WinPE 5
