Ghost Bootable DVD to Bootable USB

Created: 19 Nov 2012 | 3 comments

Hi all,

I have a Ghost (8.0) bootable DVD.

When I boot this DVD a have a Microsoft Windows 98 startup Menu ?

anyway, this works fine but I need to make it into a Bootable USB drive.

I have tried many things including ISO to USB etc but nothing works.

The DVD contains the following files?

I have created winPE bootable Usb before but this looks like an older boot disk that uses windows 98

You should have no problem running Ghost 8 under WinPE, so why not try it with an existing WinPE bootable USB stick?  DOS has many limitations which present problems with modern hardware, such as no SATA support.

Making a DOS bootable USB stick is quite simple. There is a utility written by HP that has been used by many techies over the past few years - google for it, or try:

Hiya, I have created ghost winpe USB before and I know how to create a dos bootable problem is that I have a ghost bootable DVD from a third party that I need to transfer to bootable USB as is? Tried creating Iso from DVD then ISP to USB but I just get disk error when I try boot from USB...that's why I attached info of the files on the DVD, any idea what type of bootable DVD this is, menu says win98?

It's a DOS bootable.  Any DOS boot image will have MSDOS.SYS and IO.SYS as hidden files, and a copy of COMMAND.COM as the interpreter.  I presume you have a config.sys and autoexec.bat file in there as well - you need to check both to make sure you know what files are being run, and ensure you duplicate this in the USB image.  It is highly unlikely that you can make a USB bootable image from a CD image as the structures are entirely different.
