  • 1.  Ghost can't access Windows 7 Share from DOS boot

I have created a USB DOS boot stick for a PC roll-out we are executing at our company

I could not use the multi-boot because Dell has it's own proprietary drivers, but I got around that

My question is this - when our image share was connected to a Windows XP server (secondary hard drive installed in server), we were able to map a drive to it and use one-off ghost imaging. Now that it is on a Windows 7 server, the share is inaccessible from the DOS boot screen. I can use GhostCast Server, so I know the network is connected. For some reason, I get a message that the userid/password has not been validated (sometimes), which we didn't see in the XP days, but ghostcast server still works

    Any thoughts on this?

Yes. As I recall, windows 7 does not install the netbios protocol by default and therefore your DOS client will almost certainly fail to connect since it no longer has a client with the right security credentials to log on to the more secure operating system.

Frankly, the lack of support within DOS for both modern hardware and modern operating systems makes WinPE a much better choice. You can boot WinPE from USB sticks, USB hard disks or optical devices, and it has support for SATA which is pretty much the default standard for both optical and hard disks nowadays.

If you have Ghost Solution Suite 11.5.1.2266 then it includes WinPE and Ghost Boot Wizard to allow you to configure a WinPE boot environment to which you can add drivers for your modern hardware.
