    Hello

I have a ghost cast server with .gho image file of 10 gb stored on the same server with windows server 2008 OS. I tried to restore the image to number of pcs. These pcs booted to domain with windows server 2003 OS and from the boot menu selected universal option to load the ghost program on pcs. The restore started but after restoring 20 mb  there was no further transmission activity. When I stopped the restore I recieved an eror message on ghost cast server "An error occurred during GhostCast transmission. If this error persists, please contact technical support and have GhostCast server and client error logs available." "   ""£$ I checked the

I checked the .gho file but noticed there were many .ghs with different sequence numbers were created in the same folder which weren't there before!!! Any suggestions how to fix this problem and how this could have happened?

    Regards

    Shari

It looks very much as if you tried to backup the existing hard disk rather than restore an image to it, as I cannot see any other situation which would create GHS files in your network folder.

When you say "These PCs booted to domain", what exactly did they boot?  PCDOS?  WinPE?

In fact, you have also not told us what version of Ghost you are running, so please fill in the blanks so that we are better able to help you.

These pcs were booting to PCDOS via tftp. The ghost version is 11.5.2266.

If you have a single 10Gb GHO file, then you will not be able to restore it using any version of PCDOS.

PCDOS uses the FAT or FAT32 file system which has a 2 Gb limit on file size. You need to boot WinPE if you wish to restore files greater than 2Gb in size.

Thanks for your advise. For your information The .GHO file was created using WinPE boot disk and its size was about 27GB. When .GHO file was attempted to be restored into the PCs, they were booted using PC-DOS network boot utility. Strangely since then spanned .ghs files emerged in the folder with 2GB in size plus that the .gho has changed size to 2GB tool.

I have managed to overcome this situation by using the ghofixup.exe tool to recover the .gho and ensured , booted every PC from cd drive in preparation for the restore session and  span switch was also enforced .

Can you please advise me what may cause a drop in speed transmission when restoring more than 2 pcs in a session. Is there any ghost switch for this purpose.

    Thank You

What version of GSS are you running?

There is likely to be a drop in speed transmission as the number of machines increase, due to network loading. So much depends on the sort of network you are running from, and the speed of the machine (and its NIC) on which the Ghost files are stored.

If you could describe your setup in some detail and also give us an idea of what percentage drop in performance you are seeing for each additional machine.

No GSS is in use, only Ghost Cast server. The switch in use is an hp 10/100/1000 product. Ghost cast server is running on windows 2008 serve on a viglen machine, with Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT network card  , 2 GB memory,

Intel xeon 3. ,        Ghost Server processors are Intel xeon 3.4GHZ, 3.39 GHZ (2 processors). One subnet used for the entire ethernet network . PC are booted via cd-rom into windows 98 to pick an ip address from network. About 3 to 4 drop in transmission for each PC. The transmission can improve after a long period of waiting.
