    hello,

i got a problem with one windows7 client.
i cannot say if the problem only occurs on that client because that is our first windows7 machine.
the remote client installation worked fine and on the client i can see the ghost systray icon which is connected to the backup server.
BUT the machine doesn't appear in any of the machine groups in the console.
my console version is 11.5.1.2266 .

how can i solve that problem?

    yours sincerely chris.

In the client machine please check if the Windows firewall or any third party firewall is turned on. Please turn this off if its on. Now check if the client machine shows as connected in the default group in the console. If this does not work the copy the client.msi file from c:\ProgramFiles\Symantec\Ghost\Client Install in the console machine and try installing the client manually into the client machine. While installing the client it would prompt for the server name or ipaddress. Try ipaddress  first and check if this works or not.

    no success.

i disabled the windows firewall for all public/private zones, reinstalled the client through the client.msi, but it still doesn't appear in the console. the systray icon still shows "managed by backup.ourdomain on ip:port"
    any other suggestions ;-) ?

Try disabling the simple file sharing option in the client machine. This is what we do on XP machines - I am not sure where to do this on a windows 7 machine. Just check this. After doing this try restarting the service related to Ghost Solution Suite in the cient machine. Also close the console and open it again.

Please also check if this machine is seen in any other machine groups. To confirm that its not seen anywhere in the console just check the mac address of the client machine and verify in all the machine groups with the mac address. Sometimes if this machien was already added as a client and now you have changed the computer name, it would remain in the original name in the console until you do a refresh configuration.

@Gkg: Thank you. The Machine was already in the Console under a former Hostname :-/ I removed it and then all went fine.

I'm having this issue - running the same version. I tried the suggestion of copying the folder and installing it directly to the client.

On the Windows 7 Professional Systray it shows the client but with a red 'x' indicating it is not working.

I've run two Inventory Refreshs' and haven't gotten the system to show.

Inventory refresh just updated the information on the connected machines.   If this client has the X then it can't find the server for one reason or another and unfortunatly nothing done to the ghost console software that will resolve this.

Take a look on the client for the pubkey.crt.   Stop the host service and then replace the pubkey.crt on the client with a copy from the server.   should be located in the ghost install folder.    Once the pubkey.crt is replaced then restart the service on the client and see if it reaches out to the server.   If not then look for the ngctw32.log file from the client and post it here to look over.

    Cheers.

    Hi,

The ' Symantec Ghost Client Agent ' service is stopped.

Restart the service by hand. Right click on the system tray icon and make sure its started.

    Prassanna,

I did a services.msc and started this up even though it was automatic. I figured it was running since it was in the systray. I can now see it in my Console.
