  • 1.  Ghost Console creates multiple machine entries after restart

    Hello everybody

I use a gss 2.5 (11.5.0.2113) console on a w2k3 server to backup different servers with "image create task". This works perfectly for w2k3 boxes and w2k8 standard. I can also image two w2k8 datacenter boxes with multiple network cards, but every time I restart the ghost console, two additional entries for the boxes in the console with a new machine id are created (server101, server101 (2), server101 (3) and so on. The latest generated server shows connected, the others disconnected.

Who knows what the problem might be?

    Thanks in advance

Do these machines have multiple network cards? This could be the issue. Choose View > Details and check the adapter addresses for the duplicate entries: are they the same or different? If different, this is likely the result of multiple network cards, or virtual NICs.

Yes these boxes have multiple NICs. But the adapter address shown for every instance created in the console is the same.

If this is an option to test, try disabling the additional NICs, then delete the additional entries from the console and try to reproduce the error. This will tell us whether or not that is the problem.

I have disabled all NICs but one, deleted the additional entries in the console, restarted the console, the additional entires reappear, one per restart.

On the client machine, do an IPCONFIG /ALL command, and write down all the MAC addresses of the network cards. Then in the console, compare them to the ones that appear there. Are they the same?

All the instances of the machine that are generated in the console have the same adapter address, only the machine id is different. Also ipconfig /all shows the same adapter address. I still have disabled all NICs but one as the box is not yet productive.
    Any more ideas?

I have found out the solution.

    1. Disable the additional NICs
    2. Uninstall ghost client
    3. Reinstall ghost client
    4. Enable additional NICs

    >No more multiple entries of the same servers in the console

I had the same problems with 2 gateway tablets that I ghosted and they both failed on the sid change and when they restarted they both started creating dupicate entries as discribed above same name with a (1) (2) etc after each and every one.
I disabled all nics except the hard wired one , unistalled ghost client restarted and reinstalled ghost client and as soon as the install was finished the duplicates started appearing, so I am uninstalling the client again until I can find a permenent solution.
I even reghosted them twice but it still does the same thing after ghost finishes.

I've got the same scenario as Nettechguy, machines that fail during the ghostwalker SID change created duplicate entries once you have ghost client running on them. My machines have only 1 NIC on them.

Maybe we did something wrong, but hopefully it's a bug that can be fix. Either way, it's good to find out the source of the problem. Let us know if there are procedures for us to find out the main cause for this.

    Cheers!

    Same issue here:

All the instances of the machine that are generated in the console have the same adapter address (MAC). I have seen this problem more times, because we have multiple ghost consoles. It seems like the problem persists since we've upgraded to version 11.5.1.2266.

At one moment the Ghost Console gives a license error: "you have used up 90% or more of your licenses" because to many object are in the default machine group. Deleting the fault instance solves the problem, but it's hard to clean up the default machine group (delete +/- 5000 instances!).

We just updated to 11.5.1.2266, restarted server, then the default group kept repopulating with disconnected computers which were listed as been connected in different containing folders.

    Fix

Make a note of the ones that keep repopulating in default.

Disconnect ghost service, right click in the system tray “Stop Symantec ghost config server”

Delete the noted entries in default

    “Start Symantec ghost config server”

    Go tools remote client install

Reinstall agent to the noted computers that keep repopulating

We had to repeat the steps a couple of times to get them all, but it worked.

    Hope helps Leon

Stopping the symantec ghost config server makes no difference. Ghost hangs when deleting 5000 items (task not responding).

we had to do it in batches, if you dont stop the service they repopulate before you have finished deleting.
