  • 1.  Ghost Console - does not detect network

    Hi

(Environment: Small Business Server 2003 + XP clients x 5)

Having had an horrific week almost losing all the data on the server, we have now decided to get some proper backups in place (rather thasn the ad-hoc arrangements that we used to have!). A friend suggested Ghost and I have downloaded and installed the Ghost Solutions Suite. Everything looks good on the (virtual) box, but I can't get it to work and I'd like to get it happening before the trial is up so I can purchase and get things set up and then forget all about it for a few months.

I have used Ghost in the past with a different organisation to clone disks and retire disks etc. which worked a treat. Admittedly, the Ghost Console is a bit new to me but I just can't get it to recognise any of the components on the network. Hopefully, someone will put me right with this and I will feel a bit stupid for a while!

As I understand it, I add my domain to the domain list and it should populate the default folder with the computers on the network. It doesn't! I have checked to make sure that the ghost/admin account has all the correct privs and it does - I have tried to run the refresh task but no luck. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance

I have never seen ghost automatically populate any folder in the console with a machine list from a domain or any other source.  The list it will probably populate is the one shown when you want to do a remote client install.  Your domain should be in the list when you expand "Network" then "Microsoft Windows Network".

The only way I know of that a client shows up in the console is if the ghost client is installed on it, which you can do from the above remote client install under the tools menu.
