I have a new HP Elitebook 1040 G2 laptop that I am trying to restore our standard gold build image to, but the ghost64.exe step keeps failing.

I managed to get the error log from one instance which attach below. In short, the error indicated is as follows:

Error Number: 8027
Message: A GeneralException occurred
Version: 12.0.0.7031(Mar 11 2015, Build=7031

Ghost is running as part of an Altiris job within WinPE 4.0 based automation environment.

As a test, I tried running ghost in GUI mode to select the image manually. Doing this I could see that it was failing with Internal Error 8027, "An internal inconsistency has been detected". The status bar at the bottom indicates that it was "executing TRIM on unused sectors" at the time.

This model of laptop uses a PCI-E M.2 drive rather than a standard SATA based SSD.

Any ideas how I can resolve this please?

Utilizing a -notrim switch for Ghost during deployment should resolve this issue. A similar process is required for the surface. Another alternative is you use an older version of Ghost which does not have trim support and thus does not encounter the issue. Obviosly not ideal but we have had to perform scripted image deployments in our enviornment to avoid this issue.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Would not performing a TRIM at image time have any adverse effects? I'd assume once the machine was imaged, Windows 7 itself would perform a periodical TRIM by itself anyway?

I don't believe it would have any adverse effects. We have been using this deployment model for a while now in our environment without issue. I'm not sure about the OS triming on its own but I suspect you're right.... did you have any luck?
