I have a laptop which I need to ghost and put on another laptop, with slightly different model and size hard drive.

How do I modify an existing ghost image so that it will work on other hard drives? I have ghost console 8.2.

The ghost image was created in dos mode by typing the dos command ghost.

I know this is probably in the archives somewhere but didnt see it.

    Thanks.

What are the CPU and chipset specs for your two laptops?

If the chipsets are different then your best case scenario is windows having to perform device detection on startup after the restore. Worst case scenario is the computer failing to boot with BSOD.
If the chipsets are the same then you should be able to restore the image without much problem.

Oh, and what Operating System do you have installed on your source laptop?

Ghost shouldn't have any problem if it is only different hard disk model and a size.

What's the error you're getting from the new drive?

I've once taken an xp image of a hard drive of one machine and placed it on the hard drive of another and windows xp wouldn't boot up. It was an xp issue though, because i followed the error on the 'net and found that i just had to boot into recovery console and run a command to fix the boot sector. I think the installation of the old machine couldn't cope with specs of the new machine, but doing that fixed it.

Dunno if this applies to you.

    good luck
