Ghost Imaging Free Space without the -IR Switch

Created: 05 Oct 2012 | 5 comments

Hi All,

I have several systems that need to be imaged up however I am having a problem. I am trying to back them up using the GhostGast Server however it is trying to image the whole disk (without the use of the -IR switch) when the systems disks are only about 25% full. I have insured that the boot disk I am using has all the needed storage drivers however the problem still remains. I am at a lose concerning how to further address this. Any help would be appreciated!

Ghost Version 11.5.1

Systems are a HP 8440p and a Lenovo T420 both using ACHI

Are you booting to DOS or WinPE?

Try making a partition image rather than a disk image, or let us know the exact imaging command string you are using.

When attempting to just image a partition it still list the data size and disk size as the same and tries to image blank space. I am not using any commands with this image.

Thank you again for all the help!

Do you have the correct Vista 32 bit drivers installed for your SATA chipset as well as your NIC ?

It looks like WinPE is not able to access your disk subsystem correctly and actually see the files; all it is seeing is the bios record of the disk size.

If you exit to the WinPE command prompt, can you change to the drive letter you are trying to image and view/open individual files?
